Growing up under the authoritarian regime of communist Czechoslovakia, where a sense of safety was absent and a smile on a stranger’s face scarce, it has been a long journey for me to recognize the true meaning of love. I loved out of guilt and immaturity in my younger years. I resisted being loved, thinking I wasn’t worthy of it, perhaps because love wasn’t there when I needed it most.
In the course of my life, slowly paving my path to maturity and wisdom, I have realized that love is a process. Not just a process of understanding our evolution beginning in our formative years, but also a creative process that needs to be nurtured and replenished.
Like a treasure chest under a child’s bed, love is a little drawer in my heart. You know it’s always there and when you open it, it fills you up with the deepest joy and you know you can overcome anything.

Love is truly the greatest comfort of all.
