I started working on the Landscapes series after I visited Iceland several years ago. I felt liberated by the country's remoteness and by the beauty of its ever-changing landscape. Lonely houses nested under the rocky cliffs, mountains studded with sheep that looked like small fluffy clouds accidentally caught on the mountainsides. The glacier surrounded by vast and desolate surfaces, with boulders scattered in all directions. I stood on the black beach on one rainy afternoon--the sight was so Bergman-esque it made me look over my shoulder, half believing I would see Death lurking somewhere in closed proximity, as I watched menacing dark waves being thrown at my feet as if they were going to take me away. It was then my desire to exPRESS what I felt was born.
